Legal Counsel - 12 Month Contract

Job Description

This role sits within the Retail division, but supporting all JDE UK and Ireland businesses. 

The Legal Assistant will play a pivotal role in supporting the business and putting in place some critical processes to help set up an optimised and value-adding Legal & Compliance function in the UK & Ireland. As such, you will engage with all the functions in the business meaning that you will build your commercial acumen at the same time as using and expanding your legal skills, including through your connections with our wider Legal & Compliance worldwide community.

Key responsibilities of the role:  

  • Contract Governance: help implement our Contract Policy, updating our templates and providing contract training to Procurement and other business functions
  • Marketing ways of working: increase self-service on low value/risk activities by developing templates, guidance notes & training on specific marketing activations (e.g. Competitions, Price promotions, GDPR consent requirements)
  • Data Privacy: review and improve our current GDPR processes, requirements & records (e.g. ROPA, DPAs) to ensure compliance, as well as delivering targeted training with the business
  • Training & Guidance: research and provide training/guidance on critical existing and new regulations impacting the business (e.g. HFSS, consumer protection, Brexit divergence)
  • Innovative Solutions: We are always looking for innovative ways to help our internal stakeholders, whether it be self-serve tools and automation or something we haven’t yet heard of.  You’ll help us to identify and develop new legal tools and manage and enhance our existing ones.
  • Additional business projects: there are always interesting projects to get involved in, these can cover topics such New Product Launches, Compliance, Brexit, Sustainability providing a platform to enhance your legal & commercial know-how as well as gaining a broader view of the business environment.

Qualifications

For this role, we’re looking for someone who has the following skills and experience:

  • A Legal qualification or experienced Legal Exec
  • Must have post degree relevant legal experience, including some exposure to an in-house environment
  • An eye for detail with strong written and verbal communication (English)
  • The ability to engage with internal stakeholders in a creative and impactful manner, to build positive and effective working relationships
  • Great IT skills and a willingness to learn new tools and systems
  • A passion for our brands, a continuous improvement mindset and a positive, can-do attitude!
